Common Signs of Hearing Loss

Because hearing loss usually occurs gradually, it is sometimes difficult for a person with hearing loss to recognize they have a problem. They may complain that family members mumble or speak to quickly. Common signs of hearing loss include:

* Words are difficult to understand – saying “I can hear, I just can’t understand”
* Asking others to repeat often
* Trouble understanding conversation in background noise
* Ringing or noises in your ears
* Social outings have become less enjoyable
* Straining to hear normal conversation
* Turning the TV or radio volume up to the point that others complain
* Hearing better in one ear than the other

If you experience any of these warning signs, you should have your hearing checked by an audiologist.
